Chetana Child Development Centre, Mangaluru celebrated ‘Shri Krishna Janmashtami’ on 18.8.2022. Smt. Sumathi V Shenoy, President, Seva Bharathi, Smt. Sujatha Kamath the chief guest of the function and Smt. Suprita H M were present during the occasion. School teachers, children and those gathered in the function chanted Shri Krishnastothara, sang Bhajans with children, followed by Arathi. All the girls were dressed as ‘Radha’ and boys as ‘Krishna’ for performing Tottilu (cradle) Pooja. The teachers presented dance and Kunitha Bhajane (dance with bhajan). Ashtami related games ‘Mosaru Kudike’ (breaking the pot) and ‘Dana-Huli’ (chasing the cow) were played involving all the participants.

Conduct of Medical camp on “Skin Problems”

Anantha Soukhya, the unit of Seva Bharathi serving for the welfare of Sr. Citizens, organized a free medical camp on ‘Skin Problems – check up and Consultation” on 24.7.2022 at the premises of Chetana School.

Shri Dinesh Kamath H, MBBS, DVD, the Sr. Consultant, Department of Dermatology , Government Wenlock District Hospital Mangaluru inaugurated the camp by lighting the lamp, along with other dignitaries. In his inaugural address, Dr. Kamath stated that skin problems should be get cured in the initial stage itself whereas in most cases people consult late, which aggravate the problems. Further, people land in more troubles by self-medication by utilizing tablets, gels or creams available at home brought for some other diseases.

Smt. Sumathi Shenoy, President, Dr. Shreya, Consultant (Dermatology), Trustees, Shri Umesh Shenoy, Convener, Ananth Soukhya, Volunteers and Staff of Seva Bharathi ® co-operated in conducting the Camp. More than 50 members utilized the medical camp.

Workshop on Supporting communication in children of Special needs

A one day workshop on “Supporting communication in children of Special needs” for the teachers of special schools was organized on 9.7.2022 at the conference Hall of the Chetana Child Development Centre, V T Road, Mangalore.

Shri Pratap Simha Nayak, MLC inaugurated the workshop by lighting the lamp along with trustees of Seva Bharathi. He lauded the services being rendered by the units of Seva Bharathi for specially challenged category. Briefing his experience, he recalled that such children require assistance and support than sympathy. He advised the teachers always to attend their duty in an innovative view so that the  beneficiaries come out from their sufferings, to the possible extent.

Smt. Orin D Silva, MSCCC-SLP, AAC/AT Specialist at Santa Clara County Office of Education, California, Faculty of Baylor University, Texas and Dr. Jayashree S Bhat, Phd, MSc (SP & HG, MA Psy), Audiologist, Speech, Language, Pathologist and Swallowing Therapist, K M C Mangalore co-operated as Resource persons in organizing the workshop.

In the workshop, 82 teachers from 20 special schools from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi  Districts participated in the workshop. The interaction session made the workshop more fruitful to the participants. Participation certificates were distributed to the teachers.

ENT Medical Check Up & Consultation Camp

Anantha Soukhya, organized a ENT medical checkup & consultation camp for senior citizens on 19.06.2022 at Chetana School premises. Dr. Vijayendra Shenoy, Professor and HOD, ENT Department, KMC, Mangaluru, Dr.Jayashree Bhat, Audiologist and Speech Language Pathologist & Swallowing Therapist, KMC, Mangaluru assisted in organizing the camp. During inauguration Dr. Shenoy while addressing the gathering advised on many issues being experienced in ENT treatment which can be eradicated by regular ENT checkup to prevent someone entering serious stage. Dr.(Smt.) Bhat advised the senior citizen not to ignore the ENT treatment and sometime those senior citizens who always keep silent will too experience the Audio problems. The proprietor of RIPSHIP World Venture Pvt. Ltd. , Shri Ripson Jeremia, trustees of Seva Bharathi ® were present during the occasion. The team of Dr. Shenoy and Dr. Bhat including technicians, RIPSHIP World Venture team, the volunteers of Seva Bharathi ®, Chetana School staff were associated in the camp in which 59 senior citizens were benefited.

Grand reopening of Chetana Child Development Centre

To motivate the challenge children towards schools or Care Centres and spreading awareness among the general public emphasizing educating the challenged children, a grand reopening of Chetana Child Development Centre was held on 16.05.2022. A procession of the specially abled children including wheel chair dependents with their parents, school teachers and staff, Trustees and volunteers of Seva Bhararhi® was arranged from nearby Bishaps House to school premises. Inclusion of Beating the drums, Mangalavadya, carying Kalashas and colorful Umbrellas made the procession colorful and attractive.

The Chief guest of the occasion Sri C D Kamath, Retired Director of TATA group made the symbolically open the school gate to mark the reopening. Children enjoyed by unfurling the balloons and putting the crackers. Children were made to put their footsteps on the white cloth spread at the entrance of the school.

In a colorful function held at conference hall of the centre, “Upasana” team members and school teachers performed dances and “Sur Sangeeth” team presented a musical entertainments. The chief guest expressed pleasure and spoke on the vital role played by Seva Bharathi ® through its different units/activities for complete upliftment and rehabilitation of physically challenged community.
